Colin is a direct descendant of European immigrants who settled in New Zealand in the 1860s and 1870s. He trained as a professional tour guide in Europe in the late 1970s and led groups throughout Europe, Scandinavia and the Soviet Union. He returned to professional guiding in 2011. He enjoys helping his guests experience all Auckland has to offer as the gateway to this new, exciting and divergent country.

Colin is a member of several environmental groups in Auckland. He ensures part of each tour sold is directly used in protecting the flora and fauna of Aotearoa New Zealand. Before humans arrived here birds reigned supreme. We have been called ‘the land with no teeth’. Effective predator control has brought many species back from possible extinction. The photo is a North Island Kokako belongs to our endemic wattlebirds, an ancient family of birds. This bird lives on a predator free island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. Through predator control the species increased from 350 pairs in 1990 to 1.400 pairs in 2015.
